ILIOTIBIAL BAND SYNDROME
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS), also known as IT band syndrome, is a common injury that affects the iliotibial band, a thick band of connective tissue that runs from the hip down to the knee. ITBS is often associated with repetitive activities. Running and cycling are the sports in which ITBS is most frequently observed. The iliotibial band may get irritated from repeated knee bending and straightening. ITBS can be brought on by overtraining or abrupt increases in training volume or intensity. The iliotibial band may get inflamed if you push yourself too hard without getting enough rest and recuperation. At Run Ready, we provide a unique sports physiotherapy model that delivers a professional standard rehabilitation experience. We optimise recovery from all types of injuries via an integrated process of sports physiotherapy and rehab in our state-of-the-art strength and conditioning facility.
Our Coaches Have Worked With
ITB PHYSIOTHERAPY
Incorporating appropriate warm-up and stretching routines, keeping excellent running or cycling form, strengthening the hip muscles, and gradually increasing training intensity are all necessary for preventing ITBS. Our friendly and highly experienced team work collaboratively to formulate a training plan to optimise your sporting performance. With a state-of-the-art training facility, your rehab will be accelerated, returning you to sport sooner and in better condition. Check out the related program for MCL Strain.
ITB SYNDROME TREATMENT
Some people may be predisposed to ITBS due to anatomical characteristics, such as a naturally tight or thick iliotibial band. Tightness in the iliotibial band itself, as well as in the muscles surrounding it (such as the quadriceps and hamstrings), can increase the risk of ITBS. Our expert team thoroughly assess injuries using VALD testing equipment, giving unparalleled insight into injury risk, physical deficits and goal setting.
We make sure to provide local athletes with professional level sports rehabilitation through our sports physio programs, helping them return to the sport they love.
